Boat Transportation Safety Tips

NauticStar 1910 Bay BoatNow that the temperatures are heating up it is definitely time to get your boat back into the water. Whether you head out to the lake or the bay, you need to get your boat to the ramp safely. Here are a few tips you should keep in mind when trailering your boat.

What You Need To Know

There are a few things you need to keep in mind to get your boat down the road safely. Before getting started, make certain your tow vehicle has the horsepower to do the job. Check your trailer regularly and make sure it is in good shape. Rinse it down with fresh water after any boat trips into salt or brackish water. Regularly grease the bearings, keep the proper amount of air in the tires and check the breaking system. Also take a look at your trailer’s lights before every trip. Fill up your boat just prior to launching at a gas station. This will lighten the load on your trailer. Check at least once or twice after hitching your boat to make sure every chain is connected properly. Don’t forget to put the pin in the hitch or to attach the safety chains.
